Several areas of the  Popular Culture Excavation Site  provide access to mp3 music files, mpeg-1 movie clips, or both.  As these files are quite large, the question arises as to how well (or even whether) your computer will play them.  Those with high-speed connections will have the best experience.  Those using dial-up modems will encounter the usual delay in downloading a large file.

To improve your chances, a Windows Media Player is provided on this page.  You should be able to hear a music file or view a movie clip simply by clicking the little black right-pointing arrowhead in the media player.  If this doesn't work, click the highlighted title of the song or video to open the viewer that is associated with your computer.  If this fails, it's time to consult your browser or computer help files.

This is the aforementioned favorite, known in English as the "Woodchopper's Song."  Trust me, you're in for a treat.

There's little chance that you will hear "The Two Jazzers" anywhere else but here:

Bimbambulla
The Two Jazzers recorded this tune in 1929.  As mentioned on the main page this terrific recording is described in LP liner notes as combining "attempts at scat singing and instrument imitation."  Needless to say, the "attempt" is wildly successful.

Of equally (undeserved) obscurity are "De Tre Rhythm Girls," three young ladies from Denmark performing here just for you:

Skoletimer
As mentioned on the main page, the style of the Three Rhythm Girls was sort of a cross between the Boswell Sisters and the Singing Chipmunks. This number, from the jazz oratoria "The 24 Hours" shows them off to good advantage.

"Geographi," another selection from that same show, and featuring opera singer Aksel Schiøtz can be heard at this Danish web site.
